Dean of Students and Associate Vice President for University Life
The University of San Francisco, founded in 1855 as the city's first
college, is a premier Jesuit Catholic, urban University with a global
perspective. The University is comprised of six schools and
colleges-Arts and Sciences, Business, Education, Nursing, Law, and
Professional Studies. USF serves a very diverse student population of
8,500 traditional and non-traditional undergraduate and graduate
students on the main campus and five regional campuses.
The Position
Reporting directly to the Vice President of University Life, the Dean of
Students and Associate Vice President for University Life (Dean)
oversees and coordinates the efforts of Residence Life, Public Safety,
Counseling Center, and the Assistant Dean of Students (including student
conduct). The Dean is a front-line student advocate and is a key member
of the University Life senior management team that manifests the
mission, vision, and values of the University and advances strategic
priorities for the Division. Collaboration with faculty constituents and
other administrators to impact student success through services,
retention initiatives, and integrated learning opportunities is an
important focus of the Dean. Additionally, the Dean oversees all
processes related to student crisis interventions and coordinates the
Division's response to student emergency situations. The Dean provides
leadership to promote a USF Jesuit education by creating a learning
atmosphere that nurtures among students a faith that does justice. The
Dean is accountable for an overall expense budget in excess of $10
million and a full-time staff of 33, including four direct reports.
Qualifications
Earned doctorate required. Minimum of five years of senior-level
management experience in student affairs. Possess an understanding of
and commitment to USF's Jesuit, Catholic mission and the values of
social justice, social responsibility, and service for the common good.
Experience working effectively with diverse college student populations
in an urban, multicultural environment; solid analytical skills and
knowledge of current assessment and evaluation practices; and strong
interpersonal skills to provide direction in promoting and maintaining
collaborative relationships with campus constituencies are important
considerations in the selection of the next Dean.
