United Negro College Fund Seeks

Development Professional in Seattle Office

The mission of United Negro College Fund is to close the educational
attainment gap between African Americans and the majority population
by ensuring competitive member schools; and removing all financial
barriers for qualified African-American students.  UNCF is the largest
minority educational assistance organization besides the federal
government managing over 400 scholarship programs and supporting 39
member institutions.  As we continue to develop our resources and
community partnerships in the Pacific Northwest we are searching for
an individual to support our efforts and introduce us to new donors
while helping to build and sustain our current relationships.

DESCRIPTION :

The Development Professional is a two year full-time contractual
position assisting the Pacific NW Area Development Director (ADD)
based in Seattle in the strategic development and implementation of
comprehensive, cost-effective annual fund-raising and outreach
campaigns to achieve targeted goals in the following areas:

· Explore feasibility of UNCF walkathon and develop plan of action to
implement by 2008.
· Complete all applications and explore access to workplace campaigns
in Oregon and Washington.  Develop campaign strategies in association
with Western Region Workplace Campaign Director.
· Research and meet community foundation representatives to expand the
resources available to UNCF.
· Coordinate AEOS logistics and develop with board and volunteers
local super viewing party.
· Coordinate UNCF gala event with an eye towards increasing sponsors
and utilizing board and volunteers.
· Coordinate and work with local organizations on the Academic Fair to
highlight UNCF recruiters in the Puget Sound community.
· Continue development of student outreach campaign with local
community partners.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES :

· Works in concert with the ADD to plan, organize and implement
fund-raising campaigns from various sources as detailed above.
· Identifies and recruits campaign leaders and advisory board or
council members.
· Assists in the development and submission of solicitation proposals,
including the design and implementation of special fund-raising
events.
· Organizes volunteers and volunteer groups to assist with special events.
· Solicits in person or by proposal gifts from volunteers and selected
prospects.
· Assists in developing and preparing campaign materials,
communication/promotional programs in support of local fund-raising
efforts.

REQUIREMENTS :

· A Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university and at
least 3 years experience in fund-raising, marketing or public
relations.
· Demonstrated knowledge and ability in conducting major fund-raising
activities, including annual giving drives.
· Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to
deliver presentations and develop proposals or concept papers.
· Outstanding interpersonal and managerial skills; demonstrated
initiative; strong organizational skills; and ability to work on
various projects simultaneously.
· Knowledge of the Pacific NW region fundraising community.
· Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
