Women as Intercultural Leaders: Collaboration at the Crossroads

Center for Women’s InterCultural Leadership
Saint Mary’s College
Notre Dame, Indiana
April 26-28, 2007

This two-day interdisciplinary conference will explore the intersections
of international and multicultural education, leadership development,
and women's studies.

Since 2001, the Center for Women's InterCultural Leadership (CWIL) at
Saint Mary's College, has been promoting transformative intercultural
engagement to foster the intercultural competence critical for the next
generation of women leaders. This interactive conference will bring
together theorists, scholars, professionals, educators, community
activists, practitioners, and students. Participants will have
opportunities for networking, sharing best practices, and joining a
national conversation about cutting-edge work on:

~thinking in new ways about women's leadership and promoting women as
change agents
~internationalizing and interculturalizing the curriculum and co-curriculum
~building collaborative relationships between colleges and communities
across disciplines

Conference highlights include:

**Keynote speech on “The Role of Women in World Peace” by Shirin Ebadi
<http://www.saintmarys.edu/%7Ecwil/Conference/keynote.php>, Iranian
human rights activist and Nobel Peace Prize winner.
**Over 30 concurrent sessions with presenters from 22 states and 4
countries, plus roundtable and poster sessions.
**“Ran Away” Dance performance. This community project of the Ishar
Multicultural Women's Health Centre in Perth Australia depicts the
tragedy, hope, and courage of refugee women's journeys. Performed by
migrant women using striking dance forms “Ran Away” portrays the raw
emotion and turmoil at the heart of the refugee issue.
**Closing plenary panel moderated by Caryn McTighe Musil, Senior Vice
President at the Association of American Colleges and Universities, and
including Marlene Johnson, CEO of NAFSA: the Association of
International Educators; Evelyn Hu DeHart, Director of the Center for
