Appointment is expected to be effective July 1, 2007.
We invite applications and nominations for the position of Director of the
Women's and Gender Studies Program. The Director will report to the Dean of
the College of Arts and Sciences and will oversee all functions of the
Program.
Essential duties include: advocating for Women's and Gender Studies on
campus and in external communities; recruiting students to the program;
overseeing and implementing promotional initiatives and publications such as
program brochures, newsletters, and the website; working with the Community
Advisory Board; and fundraising and community outreach. Other essential
duties include: serving as the administrative representative of the Program
on college and university-wide committees; coordinating the development of
new courses/programs; managing and administering program budgets and
advocating for resources; scheduling classes; recruiting faculty to teach in
the program; hiring and oversight of graduate assistants; developing reports
for various offices within the University; evaluating the performance of
office staff and other evaluative duties as appropriate; coordinating the
program's input structure; planning and coordinating co-curricular
programming, such as Women's History Month and the Olga Madar Lecture;
conducting program assessment; and other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications: Applicants must be tenured faculty members, preferably with
the rank of Associate or Full Professor. Prior administrative experience is
essential for the position; this may be demonstrated in a number of
different ways: for example, through college-wide or university-wide service
in a leadership capacity as faculty, as faculty with administrative
assignment, or through a permanent administrative appointment. Applicants
must have a Ph.D. or comparable terminal degree and a record of research
with a focus on women's and/or gender studies. Prior experience in or
service to the Women's and Gender Studies Program is also highly desirable;
this may be demonstrated by Faculty Affiliate status, a record of teaching
in the program, and/or a record of service to the program. Also highly
desirable is demonstrated intercultural sensitivity and the ability to
collaborate with diverse groups of people.
