Who is this for?

This workshop is for people of color who are interested in increasing
the impact of their resources in furthering social justice. Whether
your disposable income is large or small, if you are giving to social
justice organizations, this workshop is for you.

What is this program about?

Changemakers will guide us as we explore:

What does it mean to be a donor/giver?
Cultural memories of giving
Creating a social change giving plan
Evaluating our impact

Changemakers was founded in 1997 to increase the effectiveness of
social change philanthropy. They work within the philanthropic sector
to shift WHERE money is directed -- to address root causes of social
and environmental problems -- and HOW it is given, urging individual
donors and philanthropic organizations to become more accountable,
strategic, inclusive, collaborative, democratic, and creative.

Connecting Your Values and Your Resources:
Strategic Giving for People of Color

You are invited to join other people of color interested in increasing
their impact in their work for social justice. We will spend a day and
a half together, exploring issues of race and ethnicity, money, and
social change philanthropy. Through a mixture of presentations, small
group conversations, individual reflection and large group discussions
we will unpack these issues and learn more about ourselves and our
community.

There are many ways to talk about giving – ujama, philanthropy,
tithing, sharing. All touch the part of us that wants to connect with
others and to make a difference in the world. Whether we give time,
talent or treasure, we are all givers.

Through participation in this workshop you will:

- gain an understanding of your role as a donor/giver/philanthropist
- explore the direct link between your values and your giving
- learn how to utilize your own assets on behalf of the organizations
and issues about which you are most passionate
- acquire the skills and knowledge to greatly increase your impact on
the work you are doing for social change.

Dates

Friday April 27 and Saturday April 28, 2007. We will begin with an
evening session on the 27th, and continue our work together for a full
day on the 28th.
