It's interesting how these remarks, which were both racist AND sexist, 
are being represented in various media.
In an interesting interview with Al Sharpton, on Democracy Now, Sharpton 
initially pointed out the sexist as well as racist nature of the 
remarks.  [e.g. "hoe"].....
He did try to stress both--altho by the end of the interview, the 
emphasis was clearly on the racism.
Which the media--and e-mails I've received-have tended to emphasize.

But the sexism-racism intersection is very important.
But underreported.......understated....even ignored.....
Including the response of NOW [National Organization for Women], who has 
initiated an email campaign stressing both the sexist and racist nature 
of the remarks.

Of course...the roots--and current usage-- of some of these comments are 
quite complex....[e.g. "hoe"]....
