Metropolitan State University invites applications for the Executive
Director of the Urban Teacher Program (UTP). The UTP is an innovative
program designed to prepare prospective teachers interested in promoting
academic success of children from diverse cultural and linguistic
backgrounds in urban schools. The Executive Director reports to the Dean of
the College of Professional Studies and is responsible for providing
leadership to promote the overall development, public relations, and
administration of the UTP to meet the mission of increasing the number of
teachers of color in urban schools.  The Director will manage the
recruitment and development of program faculty and oversee curriculum
development, program assessment, improvement and long-range planning.  She
or he is responsible for developing and managing budgets and for seeking
external funds.  The Director will represent the education program within
the academic community, and in professionally-related activities of the
local, state, regional, and national levels.  He or she will foster close
collaboration with other education programs in area colleges and
universities, with P-12 institutions that provide placement for practica and
student teaching and with communities of color. 


Required Qualifications: 


*	Earned Ph.D. or Ed.D.; 
*	Five years academic/administrative experience including budgetary,
management, and supervisory experience;
*	Three years of successful teaching experience at the P-12 level; 
*	Work experience in higher education;
*	Knowledge of teacher education curriculum and pedagogy;
*	Demonstrated ability to effectively collaborate with various
stakeholders and nurture partnerships;
*	Demonstrated ability to develop and/or participate in grant
projects; 
*	Demonstrated commitment to urban teacher education; 
*	Excellent (written, oral, interpersonal and intercultural)
communication skills; and, 
*	Demonstrated experience in culturally and linguistically diverse
communities.  

 Preferred Qualifications: 


*	Experience with national accreditation and state teacher approval
education processes;
*	Knowledge of assessment systems for teacher education; and,
*	Supervisory experience in higher education.
