RECRUITMENT ANNOUNCEMENT
Date: September 19, 2006
Contract: AGELE Communications Manager
Stipend: $7600 (paid quarterly)
Location: Your home and your equipment. The
organization pays for an ISP.
Applications Due: November 1, 2006 or until the contract is filled
Starting Date: December 1, 2006 or until the contract is
signed
Organizational Profile:
The mission of the Association for Gender Equity Leadership in Education
(AGELE) is to provide leadership in the identification and infusion of
gender equity in all educational programs and processes and within
parallel equity concerns, including, but not limited to, age,
disability, national origin, race, religion, sexual orientation, and
socio-economic status. AGELE provides a strong voice for gender equity
as well as a network for individuals and organizations committed to
instilling gender equity. AGELE members serve as a key resource for
educational institutions, community organizations, and policy makers
interested in the perspective that "equity in education means excellence
in education."
Position Objective:
This position is responsible for implementing the organizations
communication vehicles. This includes management of the organization's
web site; list serv (s); electronic newsletter or information updates;
and special communications as assigned by the Steering Committee.
The Communications Manager attends Steering Committee meetings as
requested currently held twice per year. The Communications Manager is
expected to be a member in good standing and attend the annual
conference.
Principal Responsibilities:
* Attend and participate in Steering Committee Meetings as
requested.
* Consult with the Chair (s) of the Communications Committee, the
Chair of the organization, the Business Manager and other relevant
steering committee members to obtain appropriate approvals prior to
distribution.
* Conduct steering committee approved activities related to the
development, management and if relevant distribution of the web site,
list serv (s), electronic news and information updates, and special
communication projects including but not limited to: (a.) soliciting and
writing copy, (b.) editing, (c.) layout, (d.) proofreading, (e.)
moderating list serv(s), organizing, adding and subtracting content from
the web page (f.) distribution management and (g) researching new and
innovative uses of technology to fulfill the mission of AGELE.
* Supervise the work of any sub-contracted communication services
and the fulfillment of any related sub-contracts. The
funding of such sub-contracts would come from the $7600 allocated for
this contract. All sub-contracted work must flow back to the
communications manager who will get the appropriate prior approval.
* Bring specific technology upgrade funding requests to the
steering committee. Complete all other appropriate duties as assigned.
Desired Background and Skills:
* A current or future member of AGELE
* Knowledge of and commitment to gender equity in education
* Skills and experience in information technology and
communication design, implementation and distribution.
* Skills in web-site design and management, word processing, list
serv management and in researching and using new technology.
* Ability to work with and assist individuals from diverse
backgrounds and points of view
* Commitment to serving the communication needs of AGELE and to
providing strong service on a volunteer board
