OCHA is a multi-service agency, that includes working with Latino youth
in the area of education:

 

Goal: Latino youth are provided with an educational foundation and
instilled with life-long learning goals and desire that supports
personal and professional growth throughout their lives.

1.	Educate any Latino youth who needs a positive alternative to the
traditional high school learning environment.
2.	Provide critical support services that ensure educational
success for middle- and high-school Latino youth and their families.

OCHA has 3 core programs meeting the needs of the region's Latino youth
population: LISTOS Alternative Learning Center, Student Retention
Services Program, and the Oregon Leadership Institute. 

The organization endeavors to provide leadership by developing mentoring
relationships with young people and creating opportunities for their
skill development. Whether our constituents need help in learning
English, coping with life's challenges, tutoring to help in improving
academic achievement, securing preventive health care information or
preparing for a job interview, OCHA is there to bolster confidence and
provide support and guidance in a culturally sensitive environment.
These programs provide services to help our clients with the following: 

*	Graduating from middle school and successfully transitioning
into high school 
*	Completing their high school education or obtain a GED and
continuing onto post secondary education 
*	Receiving counseling on mental health issues 
*	Assisting in securing employment through work readiness training
and career counseling 
*	Developing leadership and career skills through professional and
cultural mentoring programs

DEVELOPMENt Director  

 

DESCRIPTION: The Development Director will be responsible for the
management, implementation and evaluation of OCHA's Diversified Funding
Plan, including fundraising, public relations, grant applications, and
special events.  The position will also include fiscal management
including budget development, monitoring and compliance.

 

STATUS:  Exempt  

 

REPORTS TO:  Executive Director

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES INCLUDE: 

 

*     Manage all annual fundraising including: Annual Campaign and
mailings, fundraising events, grant writing, and Major Donor
development.

*     Manage all donor-related activities: assure timely replies, assure
donor database is accurate and up-to-date, maintain and carry out donor
recognition programs.

*     Staff the Board Development Committee & the Community Relations
Committee.

*     Work with Board of Directors, committees, and other groups to
achieve annual and long-term development goals, assist with board
recruitment.

*     Attend monthly Board and Board committee meetings as needed.

*     Participate in developing relationships with people or
organizations who may become donors, volunteers, or otherwise support
OCHA.

*     Manage all fund-raising events such as the Spring La Noche de OCHA
Auction

*     Participate as a member of OCHA Leadership Team.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

     1.          Strong written, oral, graphic and interpersonal skills;
ability to communicate effectively and project a professional image when
giving and taking information in writing, in person, and over the phone.

    2.          Knowledge of non-profits, philanthropy and volunteerism.


    3.          Knowledge and experience with public funding as well as
corporate, foundation and individual giving; particularly, on a local
level. 

    4.          Ability to establish development plans, sources and
execute details. 

    5.          Ability to help develop public relations and marketing
materials. 

    6.          Accurate typing/keyboarding skills; basic computer
skills, including the use of word processing and spreadsheet software
applications.

    7.          Ability to take initiative and prioritize tasks; good
time-management, problem-prevention, and problem-solving skills.

    8.          Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive
information.

    9.          Exhibit a professional, businesslike appearance and
demeanor.

 

 10.          Ability to be adaptable, flexible, cooperative and work
well in a team-oriented environment. 

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work areas are inside, in a climate-controlled environment with
light-to-moderate background noise.  

 

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Sitting/Standing/Walking:  Approximately 80% of time is spent seated
while working at a desk.  Balance of time (approximately 20%) is spent
standing or moving around the work areas.

Speaking/Hearing:  Clear diction and acute hearing are necessary for
effective communication with co-workers, customers, and outside
agencies, by telephone and in person.

Vision:  Corrected vision close to 20/20 is necessary to effectively use
the computer screens and proof documents.

Stooping/Kneeling:  The ability to stoop and kneel is necessary for
accessing files/stock supplies.

Reaching/Handling:  Good manual dexterity is necessary for computer
keyboard use and for retrieving and working with appropriate paperwork,
equipment, and supplies.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

1.        Bachelor of Arts degree in a related field and minimum years
progressive responsibility in the areas of individual giving, corporate
donations, event planning, major gift campaigns and grant writing in a
non-profit environment.  Must have a demonstrated ability to raise over
$500,000 annually from various sources. 

1.        Minimum three years responsible fund development management,
in a non-profit environment, including budget preparation and
monitoring, fund development planning and implementation and contract
negotiations, administration and management including a working
knowledge of federal and other government contracts.

2.       Excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal
skills including ability to craft message and approach depending upon
the target audience. 

3.       Basic accounting proficiency including preparing budgets,
financial summaries and reports. 

4.       Proficiency in all relevant Windows-based software including MS
Word, Publisher, Excel, fundraising software and databases. 

5.       Ability to manage both broad, visionary planning and
understanding of and commitment to OCHA's goals and future. 

 

SALARY AND BENEFITS: 

 

Salary $50,000 - $60,000 based on education and experience.  Benefits
include paid time off (PTO), 10 paid holidays, retirement plan, medical,
and dental.
