The Department of Teacher Education http://www.educ.msu.edu/ at Michigan 
State University announces a tenure-stream position at the Assistant 
Professor level for candidates of exceptional expertise and/or promise in 
the area of Secondary Social Studies Education.  This academic year 
appointment begins August 16, 2007.  Salary will depend upon the 
applicant's qualifications and experience.

Candidates are expected to have an earned a doctorate in Social Studies 
education and/or related fields; a record of accomplishments or promise in 
scholarship; the capacity to contribute to the intellectual, research, and 
instructional life at MSU.  Fields of social studies specialization are 
open, but areas of interest could include: global education; area studies, 
citizenship, history, geography, or economics education; interdisciplinary; 
race, gender, equity; social justice; or technology in social studies.  An 
additional broader expertise in policy, foundations of education, 
comparative education, or curriculum studies is desirable, as is expertise 
in/with underserved populations and urban and rural issues.

Responsibilities include: developing and teaching undergraduate and 
graduate courses; playing an active role in the teacher education program; 
advising doctoral students; supervising doctoral research; maintaining an 
active research agenda; and collaborating to shape innovative programs that 
serve area schools and communities.  Experience in K-12 schools is 
desirable, as is experience as a teacher-educator.  Preference will be 
given to candidates with a demonstrated record of scholarship and teaching 
or promise thereof.
