ADL LAUNCHES ONLINE CURRICULUM ON ANTI-SEMITISM
New York, NY, September 11, 2006 … The latest in the Anti-Defamation
League's (ADL) series of free online anti-bias lesson plans explores the myths and
stereotypes surrounding anti-Semitism.
ADL's _Curriculum Connections_
(http://www.adl.org/education/curriculum_connections) is a series of original lesson plans that help K-12 educators
integrate multicultural, anti-bias and social justice themes into their curricula.
The Fall 2006 installment, “Challenging Anti-Semitism: Debunking the Myths
and Responding with Facts” teaches (http:/
/www.adl.org/education/curriculum_connections/spring_2006) elementary, middle and high school students grades
3-12 how to challenge myths and stereotypes about Jewish people, and provides
ways for young people to effectively respond to anti-Semitic incidents.
“Challenging Anti-Semitism: Debunking the Myths and Responding with Facts”
consists of four lesson plans: Establishing Ground Rules (Grades 3 & up);
Understanding Judaism and the Jewish Community (Grades 3-6); Using Facts to
Respond to Anti-Semitism (Grades 8-12); and Anti-Semitism: Past and Present
(10-12).
The lesson plan also contains a number of resources for educators, students
and families, including a myths and facts booklet on anti-Semitism, a
handbook on the teaching of religion in public schools, a teacher’s guide for the
2004 Miramax film version of Shakespeare’s _Merchant of Venice_
(http://www.sonyclassics.com/merchantofvenice/SONY-VEMI-04/TeachersGuide.pdf) , and a new
multimedia curriculum on the Holocaust that includes video of first person
