Great New program for teachers. Let me know what you think about this
program.

Ramona Moreno Winner is now offering a Diversity and Sensitivity Program for
Teachers. In her introduction she takes educators into the lives of people
from around the world where they come to understand that we are more similar
than different. Introducing a DVD titled: My Brown Eyes, the audience
follows a young immigrant boy on his first day of school in the United
States. This DVD evokes a range of strong emotions in viewers of all ages.
Ramona¹s session provides a better understanding of the issues faced by
newly arriving immigrant students and their parents. Discussion groups
unearth opinions, feelings and suggestions allowing everyone to get a
different perspective on how to interact with people from different cultures
in and out of a school setting.

A publisher and author of award winning children¹s bilingual books, Ramona
has traveled to 14 different countries with her family. She knows what it is
like to be a foreigner without the language skills to communicate
effectively, how it feels to be a minority, how frustration can breed anger,
and how understanding can set you free. Her desire is to give educators
information they can use to better understand students from different
cultures and information they can share with students. Contact Beatrice

Comments from Teachers and High School Students on Ramona's presentation:

I enjoyed the presentation. It opened my mind and eyes to the hardships of
immigrants. The two videos were very eye opening in completely different
ways. The first video made me feel open to all cultures and ready to talk
about them. The second video was effective in making me feel sympathy for
immigrants. I particularly liked the way the presenter was very open and
sweet. She made me feel at ease and able to share the feelings and questions
I had. Thank you.

I think you have a great presentation that is much needed in our schools!

The experience I had was when I first was learning how to speak English. I
didn¹t know how to pronounce some of the words. So, when I had to speak to
the class they laughed at me. I used to laugh too, but I felt bad when it
happened.

My opinion is that all cultures, although there are many different cultures,
would not discriminate against each other, we wouldn¹t have so many
problems. The presentation was beautiful and I learned something new.

The presentation affected me in a strange way. I knew a little bit of stuff
like that was happening, but I felt like I was kind of put in his (the boy
in the film) place while watching. I¹m sure I could never imagine the pain
people go through, but just getting a little taste of it was very powerful.
The video in my opinion was perfect for our high school.

My fear is that the immigration issue may end up dividing us as a nation
even more, with dire consequences for all. This makes the work you're doing
even more critical at this time. Thanks again and best of luck!
