The primary responsibility of this position is to direct the Office of
Multicultural Academic Support (OMAS) and guide the vision and mission of
the office. The director will oversee a staff of academic advisors and
office support, and lead the department in ensuring that students with
diverse backgrounds have a successful and productive experience at the
University of Oregon. In conjunction with other university offices, this
position directs the development of academic programs to attract and retain
students from underrepresented groups and to enhance and foster a campus
environment which recognizes, celebrates, and values its diversity. Other
functions include consulting with central administration in developing
policies as they relate to diversity in higher education.
The director is responsible for coordinating a continuum of services for
culturally diverse students, with emphasis on services that lead to student
retention, academic success, and successful graduation. In this role, the
director is expected to develop and maintain active working relationships
with other student service offices, programs, and departments.
The director is responsible for supervising the OMAS advisors and office
staff as well as oversight of the OMAS budget. This position directly
reports to the Vice Provost for Institutional Equity and Diversity (OIED).
Level of Appointment: 1.0 F.T.E
Term of Contract: One-year renewable contract
Salary Range: $48K - $54K Commensurate with relevant experience and
education (12 month annual rate)
Starting Date: January 2, 2007
A candidate for this position must meet the following qualifications:
1. A master's degree in college student personnel, counseling, higher
education administration or related fields with higher education experience.
2. Three to five years of progressive leadership and supervisory experience.
3. Demonstrated experience in providing direct service to students of color
and students from other underrepresented groups in facing challenges, along
with having a comprehensive understanding of campus climate dynamics on a
predominately white campus.
4. Excellent interpersonal communication and organizational skills.
5. Demonstrated experience in diversity leadership.
6. Knowledge of evidence-based programs/intervention, and best practices,
that are successful in addressing educational gaps, economic and other
obstacles that create issues of access for underrepresented groups and the
their families.
Preferred Qualifications:
1. PhD.
2. Grant research and writing experience.
3. Bilingual and/or multiple language speaking abilities.
4. Knowledge of current and cutting edge technology that will assist and
enhance staff performance.

retention of students from diverse backgrounds. For each issue discuss
possible programming or outreach ideas you believe would help to resolve or
promote these issues.
