2007 Conference
Call for Proposals
CHALLENGING INEQUITIES:
TRAVELING PATHS OF SOCIAL JUSTICE IN GLOBAL EDUCATION
March 17, 2007
This conference will examine and share ideas, projects, research and
teaching strategies that are concerned with challenging inequities
and working towards social justice in education both in the United
States and globally.
We encourage proposals from a broad constituency, including:
? University and college-based researchers and practitioners;
? K-12 teachers, and school-based administrators;
? University, college, and high school students; and
? Community activists and parents.
Collaborations between educators, activists and students are encouraged.
Proposal submissions for review should focus on the following themes:
? Patterns of exclusion in U.S. and global education;
? Immigration and education;
? Growth of alternative educational movements;
? Social construction of underdevelopment in US and global
education;
? The intersection between democracy, corporatization, and
militarism in US and global education;
? The role of one or more of the following in global education:
Race, ethnicity, socio-economic class, gender, sexual orientation,
exceptionality, and whiteness.
Participants may choose to present using a panel format, workshop
design, or individual presentation.
Proposals should be no more than 500 words, and include the following:
? A summary of the presentation and/or study, addressing the
following areas:
- How the presentation will address one or more of the
conference themes;
- The presentation objectives;
- How the presentation will be organized;
- Planned outcomes; and
- Why the presentation is significant;
? The names, institutional affiliations, telephone numbers, and
email addresses of the presenters.
Please forward proposal submissions by December 3, 2006 to:

will be notified no later than January 27, 2007.

Conference Location:
Sonoma State University occupies 269 acres in the beautiful wine
country of Sonoma County, in Northern California. Located at the foot
of the Sonoma hills, the campus is just an hour's drive north of San
Francisco and 40 minutes away from the Pacific Ocean. The relatively
small campus of 7,749 students allows for close faculty-student

All participants are expected to register. Deadline for Early Bird
Registration is March 10, 2007. Late Registration is on the day of
the conference. Early Bird Registration should be via the attached
form. Students will not be charged an admission fee, but are
encouraged to submit an Early Bird Registration form.
