Greetings to all of you listserv subscribers.
I am pleased to introduce myself as your moderator for this forum. My name
is Sandra Winn. I have been a NAME member since 1998, if my memory serves me
correctly. Some of you may remember me as the first intern for the NAME DC
office ~ now that is a blast from the past. I am an assistant professor for
communication at the Albany College of Pharmacy in Albany, New York. Just
like many of you, my interests lie in strengthening diversity and equity in
school communities. In particular, I am interested in how "voice" is given
to students in school communities.
As your current moderator, I wish to engage you all in a dialogue pertaining
to MCE. My question is this:
I believe that, while philosophical discussions are important and
pertinent, it is equally helpful to know what day-to-day strategies work to
give voice to those
who are marginalized by society. Please write to this listserv
about effective tools that you have used to encourage and support diverse
understandings in your
schools, communities, or organizations?
I look forward to the discussion that this e-mail hopefully creates.
Respectfully,
Sandy
