The University Of St. Thomas
School Of Education
Inspired by Catholic intellectual tradition, the University of St. Thomas
educates students to be morally responsible leaders who think critically,
act wisely and work skillfully to advance the common good.
The University of St. Thomas, Minnesota¹s largest private university with a
combined undergraduate and graduate enrollment of approximately 11,000
students emphasizes values-centered, career-oriented education. A Catholic
and urban university, St. Thomas seeks to develop morally responsible
individuals who combine career competency with cultural awareness and
intellectual curiosity. As the university continues to develop outstanding
regionally and nationally recognized academic programs and support services,
it seeks to strengthen its ties to the local community, particularly the
vibrant and ethnically diverse cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul.
Secondary Teacher Education Generalist
with a Secondary Specialty area
The Department of Teacher Education invites applications for a tenure-track
faculty member (position beginning in September 2007). Level of appointment
and salary are contingent upon qualifications and experience. Minimum
requirements include an earned doctorate in an education-related field,
successful teaching experience at the 7-12 level, and evidence of scholarly
activity or research potential.
The department is looking for a secondary generalist with a strong
background to also teach in a secondary specialty area. The committee will
look favorably on a candidate who has administrative experience/potential.
The search committee will be looking for individuals who have evidence of
teaching ability in higher education classrooms at both the undergraduate
and graduate levels and have experience with and commitment to
standards-based education. Since the School of Education wishes to
contribute to the creation of a community of teachers and educational
leaders within the large Twin Cities immigrant population, the committee
will seek candidates who clearly incorporate the full range of diversity
issues in their curricula, practice, and thinking. The Department of Teacher
Education offers 22 licensures for graduate students and 21 for
undergraduate students.
Duties of the position will include teaching courses in foundations and a
secondary specialty area course at both the undergraduate and graduate
levels. Specialty areas preferred are: Communication Arts & Literature,
English as a Second Language, Mathematics, Science (Broad Area, Chemistry,
Earth/Space, Life Science, Physics), and/or Social Studies.
Applicants should submit a letter of interest (refer to position #200338),
curriculum vitae, three professional references, and a sample of published
professional writing electronically at: www.stthomas.edu/hr
<http://www.stthomas.edu/hr> , or mail to: UST, 2115 Summit Avenue, St.
Paul, MN 55105. Application review will begin January 5, 2007. The search
committee may request additional supporting documents (such as
curriculum/planning artifacts, evaluation summaries, and/or publications) at
a later date.
In your letter of application please address your teaching, scholarly
agenda, service, and how you will support the mission of the University of
St. Thomas and the School of Education.
