ANNUAL SALARY RANGE:  $63,962 - $83,003

 

ASSOCIATE EDUCATION CONSULTANT

ANNUAL SALARY RANGE:  $74,944 - $96,320

 

 

The Connecticut State Department of Education is currently recruiting for a
consultant position for the Beginning Educator Support and Training (BEST)
unit in the Bureau of Educator Preparation, Certification, Support and
Assessment.  The job class and salary will be based on the selected
candidate's credentials.

 

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

 

To serve as the project leader for the BEST Elementary Portfolio Project.
The BEST Program is a statewide teacher induction program which provides
district and state-based support to over 5,000 beginning teachers annually
and the assessment of teaching competencies through a content-specific
portfolio, successful completion of which is required for continued
certification.

 

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:

 

*	Overseeing the portfolio support and assessment process for
beginning elementary educators participating in the BEST Program;
*	Recruiting and training of teachers-in-residence and part-time
independent project consultants;
*	Coordinating the development and delivery of training to elementary
portfolio scorers, "table leaders," seminar leaders and assuring reliability
in the scoring of teacher portfolios;
*	Training and supervision of scorers delivering portfolio assessment
conferences to beginning teachers; 
*	Providing training and outreach to administrators and teacher
leaders in priority and other high need districts regarding BEST Program
standards for elementary teachers and effective language arts and numeracy
instruction;
*	Coordinating additional support and technical assistance to
elementary teachers in urban and priority school districts who receive score
of "1" on their portfolios;
*	Developing professional development resources to elementary
educators across the state; and 

*	Performing other duties and special assignments as requested by the
Bureau Chief.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge, Skill and Ability:

 

Knowledge of philosophies, theories and strategies for language arts and
numeracy instruction in the elementary grades, including knowledge of issues
related to early childhood education (kindergarten through Grade 3) and
differentiation of instruction to address the needs of diverse learners.
Candidates should be knowledgeable about teacher performance assessment,
including requirements for implementing a valid and reliable assessment for
licensure.  In addition, candidates should possess the ability to
communicate and collaborate with teachers and principals; ability to design
and deliver training to adult learners; and ability to prepare comprehensive
reports, resource materials and program support materials.

 

Minimum Experience and Training Required: 

 

Associate Education Consultant:  An earned advanced degree and five (5)
years of professional experience or in lieu thereof an equivalent
combination of experience and training as approved by the appointing
authority.

 

Education Service Specialist:  A Master's degree and three (3) years of
relevant professional experience or in lieu thereof, an equivalent
combination of experience and training as approved by the appointing
authority.

 

Preferred Experience and Training: 

 

Recent training as a BEST portfolio scorer and mentor.  Experience in issues
of elementary education including the teaching of language and numeracy and
the design of programs to improve instruction in these areas.  Experience in
providing effective staff development and technical assistance in the
instructional design and implementation of language arts and mathematics
curriculum and instruction.
