in Northfield, a city of 17,000 people 35 miles south of the Twin Cities
of Minneapolis and St. Paul. St. Olaf teacher candidates have a solid
background in the liberal arts, strong content expertise, and first-rate
preparation in professional education.
St. Olaf's teacher education program is accredited by NCATE and offers
seven secondary (5-12) and seven K-12 teaching licenses that are

reflective practice and the development of appropriate professional
dispositions; promotes a student-centered philosophy; and offers
challenging, supportive practicum and student teaching options.
Preparing successful teachers to meet the needs of all students and
prosper in our complex, highly sophisticated, multicultural society is
the centerpiece of our program. Many of our students elect to student
teach in multicultural settings in Minneapolis, St. Paul, Chicago, or
Texas. Others teach abroad in our student teaching centers located in
South Korea, Hong Kong, and India. During our January Term we also
supervise over 100 students in K-12 practica -- most in urban settings.
Approximately sixty students complete our licensure programs each year.
Responsibilities: Teach multiple sections of core subjects (educational
psychology, reading, foundations, urban education). Supervise field
experiences and student teachers. Advise students in academic and
pre-professional development. Maintain a productive scholarly and
professional life. Provide support and leadership for teachers and
students in regional K-12 public school settings. Participate in service
to the college. Collaborate with faculty representing teacher education
from other departments. Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: Doctorate in educational psychology or related field.
Requirements include college teaching experience in a teacher licensure
program; a minimum of 3 years teaching in a middle or senior high school
(seven preferred); multicultural and recent 5-12 experience; licensure
in ESL, science, or world languages (masters or equivalent preferred);
demonstrated commitment to educational opportunity.
Application: Applicants are asked to send a letter of application and a
vita; college teaching evaluations if available; undergraduate and
graduate school transcripts required at interview stage; a list of at
least three references with phone and fax numbers and addresses.
Application Deadline: Review of applications has begun and continues
until position has been filled. Interviews anticipated mid-to-late
January, 2007, and continues until the position is filled.
