Oregon State University invites applications and nominations for the
Director of Women's Advancement and Gender Equity. This position is a
12-month, full-time (1.0 FTE), fixed-term appointment. The Director reports
directly to, and reappointments will be at the discretion of, the Provost
and President. Salary is competitive, and the benefits package includes
several options for health/dental/life insurance, retirement, and a new
program of reduced tuition for dependents. Affiliation with an appropriate
academic or tenure home may be possible.
POSITION OVERVIEW & QUALIFICATIONS
The Director serves as a leader and change agent for gender equality; the
advancement of women faculty, staff, and students; and the rights of other
marginalized peoples at Oregon State University. This includes, but is not
limited to, monitoring University policies, procedures, and practices, as
well as their impacts related to women's issues and gender equity, and in
collaboration with OSU administration and units, designing and implementing
best practices for creating an environment that provides equal access and
affirmation of women. In particular, the Director:
* works collaboratively with the President, Provost, colleges, and
administrative units throughout the university on women's issues and policy
initiatives; works with the Cabinet, Provost's Council, Faculty Senate,
Office of Affirmative Action and Equal Opportunity, President's Commission
on the Status of Women, collective bargaining units, Associated Students of
OSU, and other organizations as appropriate
* supports OSU's goals with specific emphasis on diversity and social
justice, and works with the Director of Community and Diversity, Deans, and
department-level administrators vis-à-vis Diversity Action Plans and other
administrative process improvements
* ensures institutional assessment of gender parity, campus
climate/culture, salary equity and professional development, and researches
factors affecting retention of women; prepares recommendations and
collaborative action plans to address assessment findings
* identifies opportunities to improve the environment for women
leading to improved recruitment and retention on all levels
* identifies, initiates, supports, and assesses professional
development, training, and leadership opportunities for women faculty and
staff throughout the University
* builds partnerships with university, community, and national leaders
and organizations
* serves on various university committees and task forces as
appropriate
Qualified candidates will possess a doctoral degree or exceptional
combination of advanced education and relevant accomplishments, and have
demonstrated:
* expertise in gender issues and the intersection of gender with other
identity backgrounds
* leadership success
* a strong record as an agent of institutional or organizational
change
* advocacy for marginalized groups
* commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity and community
* superior interpersonal and communication skills; ability to foster
collaboration and work collegially; ability to inspire others to high levels
of performance
* program assessment experience
* knowledge, and demonstrated skill in applying that knowledge, of the
interrelatedness of gender with other identities
It is preferred that candidates have higher education experience, including
demonstrated leadership in higher education change initiatives.
