My name is Penny Smith and I am the Program Manager for a newly funded
Chicago Community Trust project that I would like to share with your
alumni. This is a great opportunity for Minority educators with prior
management experience looking for way to apply their skills to a
mission-based organization but never had the right connections. The
program information is below.
The Chicago Community Trust is sponsoring a Fellowship in Arts &
Cultural Management. It's an initiative designed to increase diversity
in upper management at Chicago area arts and cultural institutions.
This is an extremely difficult industry to get into without knowing
someone. This program is for professionals looking for an opportunity
to display their current talents and experience to a mission-based
organization. Six fellows will participate in a PAID 2-year rotation
program. There will be six 4-month rotations throughout seven of the
participating institutions (Shedd Aquarium, Chicago Children's Museum,
The Art Institute, Lincoln Park Zoo, Museum of Science and Industry,
Chicago History Museum and The Chicago Community Trust). For example, a
Project Engineer with 5 years experience may rotate throughout the
exhibit design departments that have exhibit construction projects or
may be responsible for Operations at each location. At the end of the 2
years, the fellow will have 7 years experience project management
experience and 2 years of museum experience that would qualify him/her
for open middle/upper management positions at any Chicago arts &
cultural institution. The targeted professions are: Marketing, Public
Relations, Account Management, Sales, Accounting, Finance, IT,
Fund-Raising, Construction Management, Project Management, Customer
Service, Education, Training, and Engineering. Participants MUST have a
minimum of five years experience in your designated fields, MANAGEMENT
EXPERIENCE and a Bachelor's degree (Masters required for some
positions).
The salary will be $50K plus benefits to participate. Salaries for open
upper management positions at the end of the program tend to be
significantly greater. If you know anyone that wants to live in Chicago
and is looking for an opportunity like this, please have them contact me
at: psmith at cct.org (No relocation available)
Rotations Begin June 2007
