Hello There,

I signed on to the list-serv specifically to answer this question. I
have dedicated my entire semester to reading all types of great books,
and this is such an apt and timely survey:

  1) The House on Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros
  2) Culturally Responsive Teaching by Geneva Gay
  3) Life in Schools by Peter McLaren
  4) "Why are all the Black Kids..." by Beverly Daniel Tatum
  5) Savage Inequalities by Jonathan Kozol
  6) Holler if you hear me by Gregory Mitchie
  7) Dreamkeepers by Gloria Ladson Billings
  8) Teaching to Transgress by bell hooks
  9) The Shape of the River by Bowen and Derek Bok
  10) City Schools and the American Dream by Pedro Noguera

Best of luck with your survey, Dr. Gorski!

  Hello, all.

Thanks to everyone who has responded to the poll.

Please, even if something has already been listed, if it's one of your
top choices, list it again. I'm keeping track of how many times books
and authors are named. That's the whole purpose of the poll.

And if you haven't responded, please send along that you think to be the
10 most important books related to multicultural education, equity,
social justice, etc.

Thanks,

Paul

I am personally shocked by the racist, hateful actions and statements
that promted the Dartmouth protests - can NAME put together a position
statement or response to the president of Dartmouth?
