SUPERVISOR, EDUCATIONAL TALENT SEARCH PROGRAM (TRIO), JOB #5385
DUTIES: Manages the Educational Talent Search Program grant project
within the TRIO program and supervises staff within the administrative
structure of the Student Development and Services Division. Coordinates
activities, facilities and staff to maximize program effectiveness.
Controls expenditures in accordance with budget allocations. Plans and
develops methods and procedures for implementing program, and directs
and coordinates program activities. See reverse side for position

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
* Bachelor's degree in education, education administration,
psychology or related field
* At least 3 years of demonstrated experience managing a project
of similar nature and scope, including at least 1 year of supervisory
experience
* Considerable technical and/or business knowledge including
knowledge of needs and challenges of disadvantaged students
* Demonstrated ability to work with diverse academic, cultural
and ethnic backgrounds of community college students and staff;
demonstrated commitment to promoting access and diversity
QUALIFICATIONS DESIRED:
* Master's Degree in education, education administration,
psychology or related field
* Bilingual skills in Spanish
WORK SCHEDULE: Monday through Friday, 40 hours per week. This is a
year-round, exempt, grant-funded position that is contingent upon
continued funding.
SALARY RANGE: $4,294 to $5,363 per month. Initial placement will
typically be from the beginning of the range to midpoint, based on
education and experience.

Basic Job Purpose/Function:
Manages a grant project within the TRIO program and supervises staff
within the administrative structure of the Student Development and
Services Division. Coordinates activities, facilities and staff to
maximize program effectiveness. Controls expenditures in accordance
with budget allocations. Plans and develops methods and procedures for
implementing program, and directs and coordinates program activities.
Prepares and reviews reports and records of activities to ensure
progress is being accomplished toward specified program objectives and
modifies or changes methodology as required to redirect activities and
attain objectives.
Essential Duties:
1. Supervises full and part-time employees, including
student employees and tutors.
2. Dedicated to and promotes diversity in staffing,
curriculum, programs and services.
3. Ensures and promotes health and safety in the
workplace.
4. Ensures a welcoming, supportive, and respectful work
environment for staff.
5. Plans, coordinates and manages TRIO student
eligibility and selection process, information/recruitment, assessment,
placement, enrollment and orientation.
6. Evaluates student progress, maintains participant
records and addresses student complaints/concerns.
7. Manages grant budget in consultation with the dean;
monitors program expenditures and budge transfers.
8. Monitors grant policies and procedures to ensure
compliance with state and federal requirements, union agreements, and
board policies and college regulations.
9. Manages and implements all project services.
10. Manages and advises the development of individual
student plans, advising, financial aid and registration for TRIO
students.
11. Provides staff leadership, training and conducts staff
orientations.
12. Oversees student orientations and workshops.
13. Provides leadership in the creation of a learning
environment that is organic, interconnected, all-inclusive and that
reflects the core values and mission of the college.
14. Communicates and coordinates with other college
programs, departments, academic advisors and faculty to promote
awareness of the grant project to increase participants' retention,
graduation and transfer rates.
15. Plans and conducts bi-monthly staff meetings and staff
development.
16. Represents MHCC and grant to the external community.
Additional Duties:
1. Tracks and records staff time and attendance
reports.
2. Performs all other duties as assigned.
