I try to be a "drum major," but find the lack of self/other
interest/awareness in many people, poor AND not-poor, to be depressing and
alarming. When people don't care about themselves, poor or not-poor, how do
I continue to make what my parents taught me -- to fight for myself as well
as others -- relevant to others in this relatively-new geographic location?

Yes, I'm having a depressing month.  But I ask because I need input from
more people, rather than fewer; please and thank you!
