Gustavus Adolphus College, a highly selective, church-related,
residential, liberal arts college of 2,550 students seeks a
student-centered and collaborative Director of Multicultural Programs.
Reporting to the Dean of Students/Vice President for Student Affairs,
the Director plays a pivotal role in the development and implementation
of programs that affirm and foster awareness and appreciation of
diversity, and that facilitate multicultural interaction and learning
among students, staff and faculty.
Reponsibilities include:
. coordination of programs designed to heighten cultural awareness, and
an appreciation of cultural diversity, and multicultural understanding;
. advocacy and informal counseling for under-represented student
populations;
. the development of programs that promote civility and a respectful
campus environment;
. support for programs that invite communication across lines of race,
ethnicity, religion, gender, class, sexual orientation, and other social
identities;
. collaboration with other campus offices and programs in achieving
College diversity goals;
. supervision of Diversity Center operations, services and programs.
Qualifications:
. demonstrated skill in developing programs for promoting multicultural
understanding within an educational, business or non-profit setting;
. strong leadership abilities and interpersonal skills;
. excellent communication and organizational skills;
. a high degree of energy, creativity and integrity;
. a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively;
. a demonstrated familiarity with liberal arts education within a
residential setting;
. demonstrated success in working with culturally diverse populations;
. a master's degree in a relevant field preferred.
